Notes displaying body text

In map views, large notes display (a portion of) the note's body copy text ($Text) as well as the title. The note's text only appears if:

  • The note has some text.
  • The note icon is sufficiently large more than the title and (option subtitle).
  • For containers, including agents, the title height ($TitleHeight) area is sufficiently large.
  • The note is not an adornment or picture adornment. Adornments do not have text. More strictly, they do have $Text but even if it has a value it cannot be displayed like note text.
  • The note does not use a shape for display. Text thumbnails are drawn in rounded (shaped) notes as well as normal rectangular notes.
  • The note has no $TableHeading or $TableExpression set. See below re table expressions.
  • $MapBodyTextSize is not set to '1', so as to suppress table/text display.
  • Notes with no title will display body text if present; previously body text display was suppressed in such notes.

$Text Style

Do note that the text that is displayed is not styled; think of it as a $Text 'preview'. Thus whilst text colour is not honoured, the

$Text Size

An attribute $MapBodyTextSize allows setting a size for all displayed $Text. It also allows a value that suppresses display of any body text: in such a cases case the vertical alignment of $Name re-applies.

$Text displayed colour vs. in-$Text colour

$MapBodyTextColor sets the colour used to display such text. Be mindful that colour settings within $Text is not reflected in $Text display in the note icon.

$Text Fonts

The font used to render the text ($Text) is set via the Text document setting Text Font but can be overridden at note level by setting the $TextFont to a different value. Thus the displayed text for a given icon can show text in a variety of fonts.

Images in $Text

(not illustrated)

There are two possible renders depending upon whether an image starts $Text, i.e. is a $Text character position zero.

  • If an image is the very first piece of $Text the image is used as a fill.
  • Otherwise the image is shown in its $Text location if space allows.
